Clinical overview

Product overview

The OpticsMED SOM2000DX is a dual-operator, two-binocular ophthalmic surgical microscope built around a 100 W medical-grade xenon light source and coaxial -2° to +6° illumination. The xenon source delivers the bright, balanced red reflex that modern cataract phacoemulsification and vitreoretinal procedures depend on, while the apochromatic Schott optics keep the field colour-corrected from centre to edge.

Key features

  • Dual binocular — main surgeon plus assistant, each independently focused
  • 120 V / 100 W medical xenon plus 12 V / 100 W halogen, switchable
  • Coaxial illumination -2° to +6° for strong red reflex
  • Continuous magnification 4.6× – 27×, motorised and manual
  • Schott apochromatic optics, 126 LP/mm resolution
  • Five filters including UV-IR and yellow-spot protection
  • Foot- and panel-operated illumination control (1–99 levels)
  • X/Y travel 50 × 50 mm; arm reach 1230 mm

Reliable theatre microscope

Depth of field and illumination are well suited to routine cataract and corneal work. Assistant scope alignment was straightforward to set up.

Dr. Emmanuel Bako, MD, FRCOphthJan 14, 2026

Excellent red reflex for cataract work

The coaxial illumination gives a stable, even red reflex throughout phacoemulsification, and the zoom and focus foot controls are responsive. Optical clarity at high magnification is genuinely impressive for the class.

Dr. Alexander Rhodes, MD, FRCOphthSep 6, 2025

Good surgical optics

Bright coaxial lighting and a smooth XY movement make anterior segment surgery comfortable over a full list. The stand is stable with minimal vibration.
